Aug 16 this year marks the 40th death anniversary of muscial icon Elvis Presley, widely referred to as the king of rock and roll, or simply the king. Every year, a local group of about ten Elvis impersonators gather to remember his death in August. Commonly known as Elvis Tribute Artistes (ETA), they are entertainers from the Thomson Community Club Elvis Singing Group (TCCESG) who dress and sing like Elvis Presley. The group held a dinner and dance on Aug 13 at Thomson Community Club to pay tribute to Elvis, where some 200 guests turned up. The Straits Times executive photojournalist Jamie Koh finds out more about this unique interest group and their love for the king of rock and roll.
