What this app lacking is the flexibility of switching subscription between devices. For example, I logged in to my iPad at home. And it disallows me to login to my iPhone when I am in the move. All has to be done is to logout the iPad device automatically instead of requiring me to do it explicitly myself. I will not remember to logout from my iPad when I am leaving for work in the morning. I do hope the developer could offer auto logout feature at a device when new device is logged in. Maybe could even select which device to logout from. This is quite a common feature with other apps.

I am a subscriber to the ST and although the rest of the sections seem to work fine, every time I try to read the E paper, it takes so long to load the content. The spinning wheel comes on and there is no indication on the progress and it takes minutes or many times, it even fails. Often, I have to close and reopen the app and repeat the same process again. Separately, when the front page shows up and the spinning wheel goes away, there is little or no obvious indication again that the load is done. There is just a read paper button and a tick at the bottom. Then I will start to click on the buttons, and then it takes much time again for it to load before the page becomes responsive. Naturally, a user will keep on pressing the button since there is little or no indication of what is going on. And after numerous attempts and tries, the page does load finally, but then the user experience becomes worse. The same E paper just repeatedly opens up multiple times and you have multiple instances. Separately, the choice of how to delete previously downloaded content is also mind boggling. Why does a user need to go through so many hoops or layers of settings to delete the content. Settings -> Profile -> Downloaded content, etc. This is not intuitive at all. The entire user experience really is painful and I hope the team takes this feedback constructively and improve on the application.

I think the app is getting worst. Previously, the issue was the app having too many ads for subscribers, and Straits Times has yet to fix it completely as there are still ads even for subscribers, but it’s just less. But you should note, as a subscriber, we pay money to enjoy premium features on the app. And yet we still have to see ads?? Anyway, going to my current issue I have, the app seems to log me out from my subscription frequently for no reason. Is it because of the new update or?? Please fix it! Back to the previous problem that is not fully fixed, you seem to think that just because you are Singapore’s leading English Newspaper, you feel that you need not treat your subscribers with a certain number of respect. What do I mean? We do not even get to enjoy basic benefits we should have! Why must there be ads for subscribers like us in the first place? Do you know we paid money for the subscription? Excuse me, could you be a bit more courteous to us? Don’t worry, if you think people have only one source of reading a English local newspaper, you are wrong. We have other news available such as Mothership, CNA and Today Online. I’m sure their UI is better than yours.
