Six good Samaritans were recognised yesterday for helping a nine-year-old boy who was trapped under a car in an accident on Jan 17. The two men and four Secondary 1 students had rushed to the accident scene in Geylang East Avenue 1 to help the boy. One of them, 12-year-old Megan Seow, called for an ambulance, while the rest, with the help of other bystanders, lifted the car and freed the boy before the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived. The six people were presented with the Community First Responder award at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the 2nd SCDF Division in Tampines. Receiving their awards from division commander Alan Toh (centre) were (from left) Maris Stella High School student Branson Ong, 12; Geylang Methodist School (Secondary) student Jose Antonio Alexander, 12; technicians Govindan Meyyappan, 49, and Huang Han Xiang, 29; and Lin Yu Jie and Megan Seow, both 12 and from Geylang Methodist School (Secondary).
