SINGAPORE - Local and overseas journalists have started streaming into the media centre at the F1 Pit Building, which opened its doors on Sunday (June 10) morning.
More than 2,500 journalists - 80 per cent of them from overseas - are expected in Singapore to cover the historic summit between the United States and North Korea on June 12.
This will be the largest media contingent Singapore has ever had to host.
The centre was a hive of activity as journalists collected their passes, picked up goodie bags and set up shop ahead of the summit.
The Straits Times has also set up a booth in the media lounge on the third floor, where journalists can rest.
The booth features the Singapore Press Holdings' publications, including ST, The Business Times, Malay-language paper Berita Harian, Tamil-language paper Tamil Murasu and Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao.
Non-subscribers will be able to receive a free two-week online access to ST and Zaobao.
Customised items specially produced by ST for the summit include bottled water, a fan and a notebook.
The three-storey, 23,000 sq m F1 Pit Building has been transformed into a media centre complete with broadcast centre, workstations and media briefing rooms, among other facilities.
It will be open round the clock from Sunday at 10am until Wednesday at 10pm.
Some 300 public officers will staff the centre during this period.
Journalists will also have no lack of food - a menu comprising 45 dishes across 15 has been planned.
These include popular Singapore dishes like laksa and chicken rice, with several caterers - including airport ground handler and food firm Sats - roped in to help feed them meals from breakfast to lunch and tea to dinner.
