JAKARTA - Sunday's (Aug 5) 7-magnitude earthquake that claimed more than 90 lives and displaced thousands was probably connected to a less deadly tremor in July, and both could foreshadow a bigger one, according to a prominent Australian seismologist. Not everyone in the field agrees with him though.
Sunday's quake coming so close after the smaller, less deadly earthquake on July 29 meant the two were almost certainly related, said Dr Phil Cummins, professor of natural hazards at Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University in Canberra.
