Coca-Cola launches its new sugar-free variant Coca-Cola Zero Sugar this month (May). The new drink, which replaces Coca-Cola Zero, promises to taste even more like the original Coca-Cola. ST Food does a taste test.

Here's what to look out for in The Straits Times' food website ST Food - straitstimesfood.com - this week.

AH YOKE'S FAVOURITE COKE

Coca-Cola adds a new sugar-free variant, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, to its suite of products this month.

The drink will replace Coca-Cola Zero. It is based on a new recipe and promises to taste "even more like the original Coca-Cola (Coca-Cola Classic)".

ST food critic and deputy Life editor Wong Ah Yoke and I had a taste of it earlier this week. We pit the new Coke Zero Sugar against the outgoing Coke Zero as well as the brand's mainstays - the Classic and Light versions.

Find out which is Mr Wong's favourite in this video taste test.

RECIPES TO TRY

Pitchers of refreshing cocktails are a great way to beat the heat.

Follow The Washington Post's recipes for five types of punch, including Swamp Water Punch, a tropical pineapple and green

Chartreuse punch; Ruby's Arms, a pink grapefruit-based drink spiked with either mezcal or gin; and The Little Figgy Went To

Kashmir, a fig and chai tea drink with bourbon or dark rum.

On the cooking front, try The New York Times' recipe for a luxurious French toast with lacy brown edges. The secret is to use white bread and add cream and extra egg yolk to the egg-milk mixture.

There are also recipes for baked salmon with tomatillos (use green tomatoes as a substitute) and drunken cockles with a spicy garlic dressing, plus a guide to creating your own spice blends at home.
